And then there was the Jewish district of Warsaw
Władysław Bartoszewski, Marek Edelman
372 pages
And yet we were so close to each other. Barely several dozen meters, only separated by a wall.
Władysław Bartoszewski
Władysław Bartoszewski and Marek Edelman, two witnesses of the tragedy of the Warsaw ghetto, give account of these events as seen from two different perspectives and two sides of the wall. There is the story of the uprising soldier in the ghetto, and the one of a historian and journalist, who was actively involved in helping the Jews throughout the war.
Both authors share their memories – remembered visions, emotions, decisions, and facts. They also recall the pre-war history of the Jewish quarter. Each of the texts collected in this publication has been written at different times, therefore some of the pieces seem detached, while others may be described as an extremely emotional travel in time.
In addition, the book contains:
– selection of documents,
– calendar describing the formation of the Jewish quarter in Warsaw and the events that were taking place during and after the uprising,
– vocabulary of names,
– extended index of names,
– rich illustrative material,
– maps of the wartime ghetto and of today’s Warsaw.

As a result, the reader can choose from three systematics of the animal world.
All the systematic groups ever known are presented in this textbook. A special attention was paid to species significant to mankind, such as parasites and species transmitting dangerous diseases.
